Almost all my songs reflect experiences in life; some embellished with various techniques to dramatize, romanticize and create mystery. This song is about as literal as I can get.
My early days past high school and the first family other than my own that I came to know intimately inspired this story. In later years when my brother heard this song he told me that one of our own grandfathers put him through the same drill. I did not know that (ha, ha).
First you are bombarded with advertisements stating some medical technology is fabulous; then sometime later a lawyer advertises that you can sue if you used it! Take your chance with the alleged medical breakthroughs. I know there are many wondrous medical advances but, not all work out for all people. My advice? Research, get opinions and be sure it is the best choice for you.
Yes the early Sixties social conscious songs, protests, civil rights and questions about war and wars. This song echos that time though I wrote it more recently when stories about missing children and crimes against children were prominently in news casts.
