Songwriter’s Insight 4

I wrote and recorded two albums (digital downloads only at this time) Sea, Sand and Pines and Silver Sands and Dark Pines; the topics are associated with The coast of New Jersey (industries, shipwrecks) and historical figures, events and embellished by mythology in some cases. The projects were researched and developed over a decade (1995 – 2005).

The song I have chosen for you this week is “She Walks on Moonless Nights”. The daughter of a “Wrecker* leader” (land pirate) fell in love with a young man who became a seaman; on the cargo vessel he was on the New Jersey Wreckers on Long Beach Island (LBI) did their trick on a moonless night and lured the ship onto the beach where the waves wrecked it. Among the dead was the young woman’s lover.

*The Wreckers set fires along the coast to lure unsuspecting ships into what they assumed was safe harbor. When the ships wrecked the Wreckers confiscated the cargo.

First you are bombarded with advertisements stating some medical technology is fabulous; then sometime later a lawyer advertises that you can sue if you used it! Take your chance with the alleged medical breakthroughs. I know there are many wondrous medical advances but, not all work out for all people. My advice? Research, get opinions and be sure it is the best choice for you.

Yes the early Sixties social conscious songs, protests, civil rights and questions about war and wars. This song echos that time though I wrote it more recently when stories about missing children and crimes against children were prominently in news casts.

Songwriter’s Insights 1

I have many songs (click)

I have many songs and you can hear them, as well as, buy them (digital download only) across the Internet. I will keep links prominent on each post. Also each post will feature a song and  background on (or about) that song. When I feel a bit of nostalgia I may share that with a photo or two. Just about the earliest song I have written was called “My Love’s Face” Though “On the side of US Highway 1” may actually been the first though I cannot find a recording or notebook with it these days: The songs date back to 1963. The following version is about seven years old and the recording about five years old:
